Programs of Distinction
Many of the programs offered at George Mason University have won national and state acclaim. Below are some of the programs recognized for their excellence and innovation.

* School of Law
U.S. News and World Report ranks George Mason University's Graduate School of Law in Tier One. This ranking acknowledges the School of Law as being among the best graduate schools in the nation and the "fastest rising law school in America".

* Industrial/Organizational Psychology Graduate Program
This program is ranked #8 in the country by USNWR. This ranking is the highest ranking received by any program at GMU.

* Concentration in Bioinformatics in the Ph.D. in Computational Sciences and Informatics
This program is the first of its kind in Virginia, combining expertise in biology and the information sciences.

* Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution
This institute offered the country's first doctoral program in conflict resolution.

* Graduate Programs in Creative Writing, Nursing, and Public Administration
These programs have all been ranked by U.S. News andWorld Report as being among the top programs in the country.

* Center for Global Education
In December 2003, the Institute of International Education (IIE) ranked the center second in the nation among Doctoral institutions in terms of study abroad students.

* School of Information Technology and Engineering
The first engineering school in the United States focused on information technology rather than the traditional engineering sciences, and the first school to offer a doctoral program in information technology.

* School of Public Policy
This academic unit offers the largest Ph.D. program in public policy in the United States and, according to the National Science Foundation, ranks among the top programs in the nation in terms of federal research expenditures by discipline.

* School of Management
This School has been cited by Datamation as one of eleven nationally ranked programs that are on the cutting edge of leveraging information systems and business education.

* WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Development
Housed within the College of Nursing and Health Science, and designated as a Collaborating Centre by the World Health Organization (WHO), this Centre works in the areas of Health Policy, Health Care Ethics, Health Systems Management, Nursing Administration, and Post Graduate Health Science. It also serves as Secretariat of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery Development.
